Date: 22-10-2007
Wrote by: EP's editor Islam Issa

Again without fans, Ayman Abdelaziz's side succumbed to a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Ahmed Hassan's former club Besiktas. After the game, manager Ziya Dogan announced his resignation, and Egyptians' eyes will be set on the Turk to see where he goes next.

Trabzon nightmare: vital game lost & manager resigns...

Dogan has been a father-figure in Ayman's career, taking charge of him at Malatyaspor and taking him with him to Genclerbirligi and then to giants Trabzonspor. It's fair to say if Dogan coaches a top side in Europe he will take Ayman with him.

But Ayman more than played his part in the weekend's fixture, and excelled in the midfield with his rough, no-nonsense style, which does receive criticism from some. Ayman showed his physical abilities and annoyed opposition players, but received claps on more than one occasion from the Dogan.

Trabzon took the lead early and Ayman played a great part in the goal. He received the ball at the half-way line and made an amazing through pass to a team-mate on the right. He put the ball square on the ground for Gokdeniz who was left with a simple tap-in.

Ayman (right) celebrates the goal he helped create... It looked like a perfect day when Ibrahim Yattara took a long ball and cut in with a superb individual effort before finishing with his left.

Despite Trabzon's good shots, Besiktas got back into the game when Trabzon received a double-blow. First Delgado was kicked in the head inside the box, and when Gokhan Gulec placed the ball in the middle of the goal, the jumping keeper tried to recover his original position. In doing so, his
knee was injured and he was stretchered off. Besiktas were able to use the new keeper by scoring a simple header to make the score 2- 2.

In the second half, BJK strikre Bobo scored after a nice move started by Burak on the left. But Bobo's game was to take a strange twist when Rustu Recber was judged incorrectly to have handled a long ball outside the area. He was red carded and with no keeper on the bench, Besiktas put in their Brazilian striker.

Trabzon tested him. Ayman delivered a great cross from the right which was headed, only for Bobo to catch. Another shot beat Bobo but hit the crossbar before going out.

Ziya Dogan resigned after the loss. A win would have put Trabzonspor in a superb position in the league, and the resignation has come as a shock to many, and most likely to Ayman himself.
