Date: 1-10-2007
Wrote by: EP's editor Islam Issa

The people of Konya - the Sufi capital - were today celebrating the Mevlana (Rumi) 800 Years festival. Though this was happening inside the Konya stadium, eyes were also on the evening game in Trabzon, between Trabzonspor and Konyaspor.

The match saw the meeting of three Egyptians: Ayman Abdelaziz versus Abdelzaher El Saka and Mohamed Abdullah. The latter didn't feature though.

The game was played under closed doors after a fan's reaction Ayman's recent incident with an Israeli player, and so there were no fans.

Despite this, Trabzon managed to edge a victory by a single goal, continuing what has been a decent season for the side.

Within minutes Konya were attacking their hosts, and Da Silva came close with a shot that went whistling wide after some lazy Trabzon passing gave him a sight on goal.

But Trabzon responded, passing the ball well as El Saka was forced to move a third of the way up the pitch to try to block the swift moves. Omar Riza took a shot from outside the box which went just wide of the target.

The long distance attempts continued with Konya's Washington and forcing a super diving save from Tolga, before making an even better one from a Da Silva curler.

Egyptian midfielder Ayman created a great attack for his side after taking the ball into the final third and making a short pass forward to a team-mate who made a through pass to Omer. The latter attempted to hit the ball in but collided with the goalkeeper Ozden and stayed on the ground.
The ball returned on the left edge of the box to Ibrahima Yattara who took a low shot at the near post which the keeper saved for a corner.

Yattara delivered wonderfully from a following free-kick, and with the goalkeeper committing poorly Turkish international Gokdeniz had a clear header on goal but hit it shockingly over.

The second half started like the first, with Konya taking more dangerous shots but Tolga once again proving brilliant. At the other end, Trabzon
made good moves but failed to test the keeper properly, Gokdeniz proving the most dangerous player on the pitch.

In the 68th minute the break-through came, for Trabzon. Ceyhun's long ball found Gokdeniz in a pace battle with the forward-standing Konya defence. He took the ball straight towards the byline and blasted low at the near post. The shock element beat Ozden and the score became 1-0.

Konya quickly tried to recover and El Saka joined in the attacks. Konya had many attacks but couldn't turn them into real chances, including a decent penalty shout.

With this result Trabzon moved into 4th place with a game in hand which could put them into 2nd place.

Konya are in the relegation zone with no wins in seven games (four draws and three losses). It is no surprise El Saka and Abdullah are considering their options.
