Date: 18-10-2006
Wrote by: EP's reporter Abdullah Apaydin

Ahead of the upcoming games against Trabzonspor and Galatasaray, Ayman Abdelaziz's Genclerbirligi lost by a goal to nil against Ahmed Hassan's ex-club Besiktas.

Besiktas' set-pieces caused Gencler trouble...

Gencler Transfers Before the Season:

Gencler transferred Ahmed Hassan's former team-mate Adem Dursun from Besiktas, as well as his new team-mate: central defender Lamine Traore from Anderlecht. They've also transferred young French starlet Mickael Joseph Nicoise and young Ghanaian international striker Draman Haminu. Gencler have kept the strong defender Fredrik Risp in their squad. The majority of Turkish football commentators call him one of Turkey's best defenders. All in all, Gencler didn't lose the depth in their squad.

Bad Start:

Gencler's performance hasn't been good so far. Before this match they'd won only 3 matches; they have 11 points in total. The technical staff haven't been able to use their resources well.

Trip to the Inonu:

In this match Gencler played defensively, because they would have been satisfied with one point at the BJK Inonu Stadium.

In the first half Gencler played a very poor game. They found only two chances from Haminu and the Egyptian midfielder Ayman Abdelaziz. In Hamminu's chance Besiktas' new goalkeeper Runje was succesful. Meanwhile, Ayman shot from 30 metres out but Runje managed to get to the ball.
In the second half Besiktas were very impressive. They scored the important goal through the young international defender Gokhan Zan, who headed home after a great delivery. Besiktas found very good chances after this but goalkeeper Gokhan was at his best.

Gencler found some clear chances near the end. Their young striker Isaac Promise missed a 100% scoring opportunity in the 90th minute, and Mehmet Cakir entered the box with some good dribbles but he shot the ball towards goalkeeper Runje.

Gencler couldn't find a goal despite their impressive late attacks and the match ended 1-0.
