The
Pharaohs managed to overcome a major hurdle on the way
to World Cup by defeating Rwanda away from home by a
single goal. Fasting, Absence of all main four strikers
and injury of Abotreka & El Sayed Hamdy all contributed
to the difficulty of this particular match but Ahmed
Hassan's experience granted the Pharaohs a precious
goal in the 2nd half.
The Pharaohs managed to overcome a major
hurdle on the way to South Africa 2010 by defeating
Rwanda away from home.
Victory didn't come easy as expected.
This is mainly due to the difficult conditions of the
game startng from fasting to the mainly injuries that
struck key players.
The national team talisman Mohamed Abotreka
has been ruled out due to injury just a few hours before
the game and this forced Shehata to start with Ahmed
Hassan as a play maker. Ahmed Raouf and El Sayed Hamdy
started at front due to the absence of the four main
strikers, Meteb, Zidan, Zaki and Mido for varying reasons.
Lack of experienced forward within the
national team was very obvious as Raouf in particular
didn't show enough danger on target till he was substituted.
On the other hand, El Sayed Hamdy was in a bettere shape
but he suffered an injury and was replaced by another
inexperienced forward, Dodo El Gabbas from the Belgian
second division side Lierse.
The Egyptian team struggled to create
chances in the first half. Fathy's crossing from the
right wing wasn't accurate enough while Ahmed Hassan
couldn't play the role of Abotreka quite well.
In the 2nd half, Shehata made a much needed
move by bringing Barakat on. He helped the team to go
forward more and started attacks better. In addition
to this, Eid Abdel Malik also brought life to Egyptian
attacks.
