After an
extremely disappointing first half and falling behind
by a goal, the Pharaohs were able to turn the tide and
score two goals in the second half to end the game in
a precious 2-1 win.
Since the African cup of nations, Egypt
didn't play any game except against Argentina in Cairo
stadium. The Pharaohs got back to action on Sunday night
as they faced the strongest side in the group in a tough
home encounter.
Victory didn't come easy but it actually
came after some painful moments as the Egyptian side
had to come back from being behind by a goal in the
first half to win the game in the end by two goals to
one.
Democratic Republic of Congo certainly
do have the quality to cause problems for Egypt as they
possess the speedy and talented forwards Shabani Nonda
and Lua Lua. However, it was the anticlimactic performance
from Egypt in the first half that gave the Egyptian
side troubles.
Egypt missed some of the key players who
lift the ACN cup a few months ago. The absence of Zidan,
Abotreka, Moawad, Ahmed Fathi, Shady Mohamed and Mohamed
Shawky had negative effects on the team harmony and
resulted in many missed passes.
Egypt started with their regular 3-5-2
formation with Hany Said as sweeper, Wael Gomaa and
Fathalla as centre backs. On the other side, Mohammadi
and Ahmed Samir Farag played the role of the full backs
in place of Moawad and the injured Fathi.
In midfield, Hossam Ghaly played instead
of Mohamed Shawky. Ahmed Hassan played the role of the
playmaker instead of Abotreka while Abr Rabo remained
in his regular role as defensive midfielder.
In attack, Zaki and Moteb played upfront
but they looked islolated most of the time because of
the absence of a real playmaker in the first half.
Egypt did create chances in the first
half. However, the chances didn't reflect the amount
of possession that the Egyptian side had. This was mainly
due to the lack of off the ball movement from the players,
lack of harmony, and absence of Abotreka as playermaker.
