Despite
Egypt's total domination in the game, victory came on
late through the substitute Mohamed Fadl who headed
the ball home to grant Egypt a narrow 1-0 win which
is enough for the Pharaohs to advance to Ghana 2008.
Egypt met the expectations and qualified
to the African Cup of Nations. However, the performance
left alot to be desired as the Pharaohs struggled to
find the winning goal against the weak Botswana.
A draw would be enough for the Pharaohs
to qualify but the fans expected a big margin win over
Botswana. However, the game was only easy on paper as
the Egyptians lacked sharpness in front of goal and
on the other hand, the guests almost scored from a counter
attacking move in the 2nd half.
Shehata started with Moteb, Zaki and Zidan
at front in an attacking 4-3-3 formation. The Pharaohs
had most of ball possession and created many chances
but quality of finishing wasn't at best. On the other
side, Botwana were content to defend and rely on their
speedy forwards to score from counter attacks.
An early goal would have made the job
easy for Egypt but the homeside couldn't convert and
the team appeared to be in a serious need of better
full backs to allow more wide play.

In the 2nd half, the pressure continued from Egypt but a dangerous
counter attacking move almost resulted in a goal for the guests.
A few minutes later, Shehata to bring on Mohamed
Fadl at the expense of Emad Moteb. It didn't take Fadl much
time to do what other forwards failed to do as he scored from
a powerful header to confirm Egypt's qualification to Ghana
2008.
It should be noted that only two professionals
abroad participated in the match who are Mohamed Zidan and
Mohaed Shawky Zizou showed a solid performance in the first
half but he faded alittle in the 2nd and was replaced by Omar
Gamal. On the other side, Boro's Shawky had a decent game
as well.
