EGYPT: Hadary, Hazem Emam,
Gomaa, Fathalla, Abdel Shafi, Abd Rabo, Ahmed Hassan,
Shikbala, Fathi, Mido and Meteb.
The Pharaohs neither won nor impressed
against Malawi in the penultimate test before Angola
2010. Excessive substitutions, random play and inability
to defend dead ball situations all contributed this
this poor display.
Shehata decided to use almost every player
in the squad in the match. He played the entire first
half with the above mentioned eleven and then he introduced
all the bench players either during half time break
or within the second half.
Shehata played with a 4-4-2 formation
which is odd as the Egyptian team normally play 3-5-2.
However, it seems that the Egyptian head coach just
wanted to see the players in action regardless of the
formation.
The end result was a lackluster display
from the Pharaohs. Lack of harmony amongst players was
very obvious in the first half. Despite this, the Egyptian
team controlled the match from start to end while Malawi
were content to play in their own half.

Despite controlling the game from start to end, the chances
created were very few. Hazem Emam had a golden chance from
a few yards out but he missed the target with his low drive.
On the other hand, Abd Rabo hit the crossbar from a freekick.
Rather than this, the Egyptian players looked clueless in
the final third.
Malawi, on the other hand, had a single random
chance when their striker got the ball and managed to beat
Gomaa. He tried to cross it in front of goal but Abdel Shafy
cleared the situation.
In the 2nd half, excessive substitutions hurt
the Egyptian team even more and the created chances remained
few. The most notable attempt was from El Sayed Hamdy to sent
a shot just wide from the edge of the box while Meteb had
an attempt with his head which was saved.
In the 87th minute, a poorly defended corner
gave Malawi the chance to end the game in a draw.
