Zambia President Wants A Win Over Egypt

Date: 7-10-2009

The countdown for the anticipated clash between the Pharaohs and Zambia has started. According to latest reports, the Zambians are not going to let Egypt have an easy win despite the fact they will be using many local players.

President Rupiah Banda has urged the Zambian national soccer team and technical staff to ensure Zambia wins this weekend’s joint World and African qualifying match against Egypt.

While the Zambians almost ensured qualification to the upcoming Cup of Nations in Angola next year, they still have high hopes to win the Saturday clash.

“We used to beat countries like Senegal, Ivory Coast with locally based players. I am not saying we should pick local players only, but let’s look deeper. Let’s try hard so that if we fail, we will say at least we tried,” the president said.

On the other side, Ghanean legend Abedi Pele believes that Zambia had the potential to beat Egypt.

“Zambia have to believe in themselves then they will do it. When you believe then everything becomes easy.

“When you start doubting, your capabilities are limited. Believe in yourself, the sky is the limit.” He added.

The verbal war is expected to continue till matchday. The Pharaohs must win to keep hopes alive while Zambia, being inspired by their president words, could be a tough side to beat at their home turf.

Hopefully, the Pharaohs will come home with a win before facing Algeria at home in the final match of the qualifying round.
