Ajax won the KPN Eredivisie with Mido

Egyptian international striker Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' won the KPN Eredivisie title with Ajax today as Ajax crushed NEC 2-0. Mido scored the first and made the assist for the 2nd, read our detailed minute-by-minute match report.

Prematch scenes:

Dutch TV started by showing the KPN Eredivisie trophy which is a platinum dish on which 2001-2002 is wrote.

 

The pitch was very muddy because of heavy rain fall before the game, and will cause difficulties for both strikers, defenders and goalkeepers in controlling the ball on such slippery field.

NEC will start with a defensive 4-4-2 formation, while Ajax will play with 4-4-2 formation with Mido and Machlas as strikers.

First half:

Ajax started confidently playing short passing but the muddy pitch cause some difficulties in passing.

4th min. Van Halst made a chip pass to Mido who was offside, one minute later, Mido caught offside again.

9th min. It is clear now that NEC play with offside trap tactic as Maxwell was caught offside again.

Because of the muddy pitch, Ajax try to play long balls to Mido and Machlas, but NEC defenders have no problem dealing with long balls.

11th min. Meanwhile, De Graafschap (former club of Hazem Emam) scored their first goal against Ajax rivals PSV, its now 1-0 for Degraafschap which means that the KPN Eredivisie is for the Amesterdammers if things didn't change.

13th min. Corner kick for Ajax, Maxwell crossed the ball high, Mido tried to get the ball fist but he was blocked by a defender, the ball went to Maxwell again though in the left wing, he made a low cross to Chivu who in turn tried a direct shot, but the keeper hold on his ball confidently.

17th min. Mido got the ball in the left flank, he spotted Machlas in the area and made a superb long cross to him in the area, however, Machlas was dispossessed by a defender.

22nd min. Excellent dribble from Maxwell in the left wing, he made a low cross to Machlas in the area, but the Greek striker missed the ball.

23rd min. Corner kick for Ajax, Mido jumped for the header but it went harmlessly into the arms of the goal keeper.

24th min. MIDO DID IT AND SCORED THE FIRST FOR AJAX. Freekick from the left wing, the cross made dangerously in front of goal, Mido was there & slided it successfully into the net, 1-0 for Ajax.

Ajax dominated the midfield area after their goal with more confident passing and better off the ball skills.

32nd min. Meanwhile, PSV conceded their 2nd goal, now Ajax can rest assured that they will be the league winners for the 2001-2002 season.

36th min. Machlas tried a cross from the right wing to the brilliant Mido, but the referee blew his whistle as Mido climbed over the defender.

37th min. Incredible header from Mido, this time it was a defensive one, he cleared the ball with enormous header in front of his goal and prevented a certain goal.

41st min. Offside on Mido, he was offside when Maxwell made a chip pass to him.

44th min. MIDO MADE THE ASSIST FOR THE 2ND GOAL FOR AJAX, He was in the right flank surrounded by two defenders, Mido dribbled both players with a single brilliant move, and spotted Van der Meyde alone in the left wing in a fraction of second, he made a long but accurate cross to Van der Meyde who advanced into the area and placed the ball nicely with his right into the corner making it 2-0 for Ajax and ensuring that the title will be in Amsterdam this year.

45th min. End of first half.

Second half:

48th min. Machlas made a good run in the right wing and crossed the ball to Mido who was in the clear, but his header went over the bar.

53rd min. Wamberto started to warm up while the field became more wet as rain started to fall again.

54th min. Machlas caught offside..

56th min. Good control from Mido in the left side of the field, he dribbled and made the cross to Machlas, the latter tried one on goal but it went into the arms of the keeper.

57th min. Another offside on Mido.

Meanwhile, PSV succeeded in leveling the game again as they scored 2 successive goals by Rommendahl and Kezman. (De Graafschap 2-2 PSV).

Ajax' coach Ronald Koeman decided to make some substitutions. He replaced Mido by Wamberto, and Van der Meyde with Ikedia.

80th min. Ikedia made a run into the right wing, and crossed it low and dangerous in front of goal, Machlas tried to place it directly into the net but his shot went inches over the bar.

85th min. Another substitution for Ajax, Maxwell out, Yakubu in.

90th min. final whistle

AJAX ARE THE CHAMPIONS FOR 2001-2002 AND MIDO WON HIS FIRST TROPHY IN EUROPE.
