Henrotay: "For Mido, Roma is a fantastic club"

Date: 27-6-2003
Wrote: EP's reporter Karem Ahmed

EXCLUSIVE: After the latest talk about the still uncertain future of Egyptian youngster Ahmed Hossam, EP caught up with the player's agent Christophe Henrotay to get deeper into the details. Henrotay was able to talk about some new interest in Mido and about reasons for the failure of other deals.

EP: Have there been any new clubs showing interest in Mido?

CH: There is interest for Mido from two English clubs. One is playing in the UEFA cup next season. One team in Italy playing in the UEFA cup is interested as well. Also, two teams in Spain, one playing in the Champions League, and one in France playing Champions League too.

EP: Is it true that the talks with Roma have ceased due to them seeing Mido's price tag being too large?

CH: The financial situation of Roma is difficult. They do not have the money to buy Mido from Ajax and their proposal, based on a loan with view on a permanent deal, has been refused by Ajax. But for Mido it is a fantastic club and we will see if they will have the resources to move on for him.

EP: Is it possible to elaborate on the situation with the Premiership club which was rejected by the player? Is it possible to name the club?

CH: The English Premiership club who made some sort of agreement with Ajax based on a loan without a permanent deal is not interesting for Mido if you consider their sport plan and especially if there is interest from clubs who are playing in the Champions League or with a more prestigious name and history. I prefer keeping the name of that club confidential.

EP:
Does Mido not mind staying for another season's loan or does he want to break away from any association with ajax completely?

CH: Mido would prefer a definitive transfer but considering the low market at present, every proposal has to be analysed.

EP: What is Mido's main aim from his next move. Is it a first team place at a respectable club, to be in a particular league, or to be in a team with European football next season, or is there no preference?

CH: Mido is a fantastic player with a great future. His aim is to always go ahead. He is still young but he wants to play and if possible at the higher level. In most of the clubs interested to sign him for next season he will be able to play in a good league and in a good level.

From the above it can be seen that Mido clearly has a number of options ahead of him. Henrotay's words also suggest that Mido would prefer to play with Italian side Roma next season, but may be unable to do so due to the finances available to the club. The Premiership teams in the Uefa Cup next season are Liverpool, Blackburn, Southampton and Manchester City and so one of them has shown interest. It is worth noting that Southampton have shown interest previously in Mido and so there is a possibility of renewed interest. Liverpool have also previously tried to buy Mido but were rejected. However, no mention of Premiership clubs in the Champions League was made, so Manchester United, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Chelsea are out of the question at this moment.

EP hopes that Mido can make the right choice in his next move and will keep you updated on the situation as it unfolds...
