Mons Battered and Hany Injured!

Date: 2-11-2004
Wrote: EP's reporter Islam Issa

RAEC Mons-Bergen were once again the losing side, as they got heavily defeated by rivals La Louviere during the weekend. Meanwhile, the Egyptian player Hany Said was taken off during the game after picking up a knock.

It didn't take long for a chance to come in this big derby, and it was the away side Mons that had it. Hany's team-mate in the midfield, Gousse, took a shot which evaded the opposing keeper, but went off target.

For the next minutes the game was full of challenges and blocks, and no real chances were made. However, after quarter of an hour, La Louviere took the lead, as Maton steered a shot past Mons' goalkeeper.

La Louviere gained confidence and tried doubled the deficit immediately. Just a couple of minutes after the opening goal, Kuklowski took a fabulous long range strike, but it went for a goal kick. Then in the 27th minute of the encounter, the defender, Toyes headed in after a well delivered corner kick.

Mons attempted to get back into the game, but the Louviere number 1 was on form to stop a number of opportunities.

The half time score was 2-0, with La Louviere in complete control.

The home side came out of the tunnel looking for more goals, and Mons looked in bad shape. A mix-up between defender and goalie almost made Mons concede another.

On the hour mark, Mons' Billy clearly brought down a forward in a messy attack, and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Ishiaku converted, and Hany's side went 3-0 down.

Not long later, La Louviere scored again! Isiaku ran well and passed to provide an easy goal for Van Handenhoven who merely had to place the ball into the empty goal.

In the 69th minute Hany Said was involved in a clash for the ball and was hurt. Unfortunately, the Pharaoh could not continue and was taken off two minutes later.

Despite being significantly behind, Mons played a defensive game in order to stop a humiliation. La Louviere attacked but couldn't get any more goals.

With this result, the rivals La Louviere jumped up to 3rd place, while RAEC Mons are in 17th place out of 18 clubs, beating bottom place by 2 points. The next game for Mons is a tough one against El Yamani's former club Standard Liege. It is still unkown whether Hany will recover for the game.
