Mons' Struggle Continues

Date: 24-10-2004
Wrote: EP's reporter Islam Issa

RAEC Mons took no points from their home game against Lokeren on Saturday. Hany Said was suspended for the game and so did not see action.

The Egyptian Hany Said was suspended for the game after picking up a number of yellow cards. The midfield therefore consisted of slightly different faces.

Lokeren needed the points in order to continue their race for a UEFA Cup position while Mons needed any points to escape from the relegation zone.

Mons didn't get any goals and thus no points, as Dos Santos scored in the first half for the away side.

Mons attacked early on, with chances for Datti. But on 24 minutes, the winner was scored by the opposition. Dos Santos headed powerfully beating Mons' goalie.

Following the goal, Mons failed to get back into the game, and left their home turf without any points.

Two sides get relegated in Belgium, and Mons are one of the favourites to stay in the relegation zone. Ostende lie bottom, yet to win, with 4 points from 10 games. Mons have 6 points from 10 games. Above them are Brussels with 7 and St. Trond with 10.
