Ramzy injured as Kaiser lose

Date: 3-8-2003.
Wrote: EP's reporter Islam Issa

The Bundesliga kicked off, and so did the national team captain's season. However, Ramzy's season did not start well as he suffered a slight injury and his team lost at home to 1860 Munchen.

Kaiserslautern started the game well and attacked. Their first opportunity went begging when Hristov struck the post. Klose also attacked and early in the game he made a good run but his eventual shot was stopped by the opposing keeper. There were more attacks especially for Hristov who's shots were off target on more than one occasion.

1860 Munchen finally got their chance. The right winger made a run past Ramzy and beat him with ease, but the keeper came to the rescue and dived to get rid of the ball.

The game twisted for Kaiser, and they had to substitute their captain Knavs. Klose received the armband. There was still hope for Kaiser, but they squandered the chance to go into the lead when Klose missed a penalty. A cross was played in and an 1860 Munchen defender came in hard. Klose's penalty hit the post and went wide. Kaiser had more chances in the first half via Hristov again. He was ten yards out but could only hit the ball over the bar.

Cameroon player Tchato was sent off to leave a gap in the defence. Kaiser keeper Wiese took a poor kick after half an hour which went straight to the opposing players. Ramzy tried to chase the striker back but his pace was not good enough, and Tchato tripped the striker nineteen yards out and received a red card. The free-kick was taken indirectly but was saved well by the goalie.

With a few minutes until the break, Kaiser got a corner. Ramzy was free to header but did not do it well, and seemed to twist a part of his leg in the process of jumping. On the counter attack 1860 Munchen won a corner, which resulted in the headed goal by Schroth on the edge of the half.

Ramzy did not see action in the second half as he was subbed off for Grammozis. The away side seemed to have control, with their fast players Lauth and Schroth being very dangerous. It could have been 2-0 when the striker ran round the keeper but couldn't reach the ball to tuck it in. Kaiser had their share of chances on some occasions but goalkeeper Hofmann did his job well.

The match ended 1-0 to 1860 Munchen. The frustration showed on Ramzy's manager's face.

More on Ramzy and Kaiser very soon...
