Egyptian veteran defender Hany Ramzy and his teammates succeeded in winning a precious point from their bitter rivals, Shalke 04. Ramzy played from the start in the defensive midfielder position and was impressive during the 80 minutes he played.

Prematch:

The first game was played at Kaiserslautern's home and and ended in a 1-3 win for Shalke. Hany played that game before his famous sickness which kept him away for the most of the first round.

The first half:

The Egyptian veteran defender played the role of the defensive midfielder during the game while the Polish international defender Tomaz Klos and the German experienced defender Harry Koch played the role of the central defenders.

Kaiserslautern received an early shock in the 5th minute when the Nigerian international striker Victor Agali gave Shalke the lead from a powerful header.

After the early goal, Shalke controlled the game but without marked danger. On the other side, Kaiserslautern couldn't create any dangerous attempts too.

In the 23rd minute, the referee lectured Hany Ramzy after a harsh foul from the Egyptian defender.

In the 30th minute, Kaiserslautern pulled level. It was a freekick from the left wing, the cross was delivered high to the far post, Locvenc headed the ball back to find the central defender, Tomaz Klos who headed it home.

In the 34th minute, Hany Ramzy was about to score in a similar fashion as he headed the ball after a cross from the right wing at goal. However, Shalke's keeper was alert this time and saved the ball.

In the last minutes of the first half, Shalke players increased their pressure and the Red Devils were forced to defend.

The second half:

Both teams had an even start in the 2nd half and both played to win but the chances were few. The first real chances came in the 56th minute for Shalke when Agali headed the ball centimeters over the bar after a left wing cross. In the 61st minute, Kaiserslautern's Miroslav Klose wasted a real goal when he got the ball at the edge of the area and had only the keeper to beat. However his shot went straight into the goalkeeper arms.

In the 64th minute, Kaiserslautern's goalkeeper Weise denied a real goal for Shalke when he saved van Kerckhoven's bullet header and turned the ball away for a corner.

In the 68th minute, Shalke added the 2nd goal through Victor Agali who fired a left footed strike from outside the area that went just inside the post.

Agali scored twice

Later, Shalke started to look more dangerous and controlled he midfield area completely. However, the Red Devils had some dangerous attempts. The most promising of which was a brilliant volley from Locvenc but the keeper made a fingertip save and turned it away.

In the 80th minute, Hany Ramzy came off and was replaced by Mifsud.

In the injury time, Kaiserslautern scored the last gasp equalizer when Klose headed the ball in front of goal to find the central defender, Harry Koch who had no problems to bury the ball into the back of the net with his left.

Bottom line: It was a fine performance by Kaiserslautern and Hany Ramzy and a step in the right direction.
