Hany Ramzy suspended by Kaiserslautern's board
Date: 23-2-2002

In a shocking, but not surprising decision, Kaiserslautern board of directors decided to immediately suspend Egyptian defender Hany Ramzy from further participation with his team.

The decision made on Thursday afternoon after they have been informed by the media that the player is found guilty of assault.

This decision resulted in spite of the large appreciation for the efficiency of the player and its enormous meaning for team and society just in the decisive end phase of the Bundesliga-season.

Will it be a sad end for Egypt's leader?

Headlines from the German media about the incident:

Veteran Egypt defender Hany Ramzy has been sacked by Kaiserslautern after being found guilty of sexual harassment.

The 32-year-old international, who joined Kaiserslautern from Werder Bremen in 1998, was given an eight-month suspended sentence for the incident which involved a girl in a restaurant in Germany.

Kaiserslautern's board of directors decision:

"After being informed of Ramzy's sentence by the press on Thursday afternoon we set-up a meeting with the player and finally reached the conclusion that Hany Ramzy will no longer be allowed to play for Kaiserslautern," the club announced on Friday.
