Anderlecht finished
2nd in the table after their 2-1 win over Mons Bergen
in the last day of the Belgian League. This means that
the Mauves will play in the qualifying round of the
Champions League next season. Egyptian star Ahmed Hasssan
didn't start the game, but he came on in the 70th minute
and did well.
Hassan played his last match in the Belgian
league on Sunday
After a poor start in the Belgian Jupiler
league, Anderlecht managed to end the competition in
the 2nd spot in table after 2 successive wins over Club
Brugge and Mons Bergen.
Hassan didn't start in any of the past
two matches. He came from injury and was ready to play
but the manager preferred to bring the Egyptian on in
the 2nd half. Against Brugge, Hassan came on in the
2nd half and was cheered by all the crowd as the match
was his last game for Anderlecht on their home ground.
The fans showed a lot of appreciation
to Hassan for helping Anderlecht winning the league
title last season and the 2nd place in the current season.
Hassan was in tears after the match and announced that
he will never forget Anderlecht and their fans.
"It's normal that I had to start
on the bench, I didn't play a match in 2 weeks. I am
happy that we won today and I want to thank the supporters
again".
"It's difficult to express how I feel right now...
I will never forget Anderlecht, and the supporters will
always stay in my heart" so said an emotional Hassan
after the game.
This weekend, Hassan travelled with Anderlecht to Bergen and
came on in the 70th minute to help his side achieve a 1-2
win. With this result, Anderlecht will not go automatically
to Champions League group stage but they will play in the
qualifying round.
While it doesn't matter at all for Hassan that Anderlecht
will qualify to Champions League or not, it is still a great
achievement for the Egyptian to end 2nd in table after a disappointing
start.
It should be noted that Hassan's last match for Anderlecht
will be in cup final next week. After this match, the Egyptian
will come to Egypt to join Al-Ahly for three years.
