The first leg clash in the last 16 round of UEFA cup
between Anderlecht and Bayern Munich ended in a humiliating
defeat for the Mauves by five goals to nil. Everything
went wrong for Hassan's side in the game as they conceded
an early goal in the 9th minute and had to play the
entire 2nd half with a man down as Wasilewski received
a 2nd yellow card. Hassan came on in the 2nd half while
the result was 0-3. The Egyptian had a positive impact
but the match was already over.

The match revealed how great is the gap
between them and the German giants Bayern Munich who
played with their refined B team as many of the stars
and key players were rested. However, the gap was wide
enough to let Bayern totally dominate the game from
start to end.
Anderlecht's manager Ariel Jacobs put Hassan and the
other experienced midfielder Bart Goor on bench and
started with younger faces in a hope they can match
the Bavarians pace.
However, playing youngsters in place of Vastly experienced
Hassan and Goor didn't help the team at all, as the
match needed experienced players to hold the ball and
control the rhythm of the gameplay.
Anderlecht received an early shock in the 9th minute
as the Turkish international Hamit Altintop scored from
a great volley shot from long range to give the Bavarians
the lead.
In the 44th minute, Anderlecht received another devastating
shock as Wasilewski was shown a 2nd yellow card after
aerial challenge on Luca Toni.
Just a minute later, Luca Toni scored from narrow angle
to double the lead for Bayern Munich just before half
time.
In the 2nd half, Ottmar Hitsfield made some changes
to increase the attacking options and take advantage
from the shortage in Anderlecht's midfield after the
sending off of Wasilewski. He brought Klose and the
speedy Frank Ribery on and these changes gave the guests
total domination.
