Egyptian star Ahmed Hassan didn't win the Golden Shoe award for the season 2007 but he came second after Standard Liege's Defour.

Winners announced in a big ceremony

In a huge festival, the award was announced after each nominated player was introduced in a detailed movie.

Hassan was no exception as the Belgian TV sent a team to Egypt to make a short film on the Egyptian. The film included interviews with some of Cairo citizens. Some of them recognized Hassan but no one was able to remember the name of the club which he plays for.

The interviewer then met with former Club Brugge goalkeeper Nader El Sayed and spoke with him regarding Hassan. Nader told the interviewer that Hassan improved alot and he was amazed to see him scoring alot of goals in Turkey.

The interviewer didn't forget to make a visit to Zamalek training and to meet with Dutch coach Ruud Krol who was the first to spot Hassan and call him up for the Egyptian U23 team.

Later, the interviewer met with Hassan in Wadi Degla club in which Hassan was playing football with his sons. The Egyptian spoke about his return to Egypt after long years of playing outside the country and that he took this decision for the sake of his sons and family.

After this short film on Hassan in Egypt, the Egyptian was asked either he wants to continue the interview in English or French, Hassan laughed and said: it will be difficult and repeated that in French too so the interviewer asked him in Arabic, if you had to choose to win this award or the African cup, which one would you choose? Hassan replied with a big smile: both and everyone laughed. The interviewer added: Are you nervous? Hassan replied: No.

Despite the many people who voted for Hassan (213 votes), Defour won the trophy as he collected 312 votes.

The Egyptian did look sad for a second when the trophy went to Defour, but he quickly congratulated the winner.
