Ahmed Hassan played a full match versus Spanish side
Getafe in the UEFA cup and assisted the only goal for
Anderlecht in the game. The game ended in a 2-1 loss
for the Mauves. With this result, Getafe, Anderlecht
and Spurs will advance to the next round.
Egyptian star Ahmed Hassan played a full
match for his side Anderlecht in their away clash with
Getafe in the UEFA cup group stage. Despite the defeat
of Hassan's side by two goals to one, Anderlecht will
advance to the last 32 round because of the defeat of
Hapoel Tel Aviv at their home by three goals to one
to the Danish side, AaB Aalborg.
Anderlecht are still out of shape as they
almost lost hope in the Belgian league title after their
1-0 away defeat to Brugge this week.
The poor form for the Mauves conntinued
in tonight's game as they lost by two goals to one to
Getafe. The Spanish side scored early on after a deflected
shot by Hernandez. The latter struck the ball from the
right side of the box to come off the foot of Van Damme
and end its path into the back of the net leaving Zitka
with no chance.
Hassan's side tried to come back into
the game and Hassan created a golden chance to Thereu
when the Egyptian sent a superb cross to him in front
of goal but Thereu headed the ball wide and squandered
the chance.
In the second half, Getafe extended their lead just 4 minutes
after the kick off, the goal came through Celestini who buried
the ball ghome with his left on the volley after a fine cross
from the right wing.
Hassan and his teammates fought hard to get
back into the game and the Egyptian almost scored from a low
from from close range but he sent it into the body of the
goalkeeper.
In the astoppage time, Hassan controlled a loose
ball in the left side of the box and crossed the ball to the
onside Thereu who headed home to make the score 2-1.
Meanwhile, Israeli side Hapoel Tel Aviv suffered
a surprising 1-3 home loss to AaB which meant that Anderlecht
can advance to the knock out stage as 3rd in the group.
