Wasteful Anderlecht drew at home with Rapid Vienna in the UEFA cup. They conceded a late goal to end the first leg match in a 1-1 draw.

Despite scoring early in the game, particularly in the 11th minute through Serhat Akin who slotted the ball home after a fine cross from Ahmed Hassan, the Mauves failed to control the game and couldn't add any more goals despite the numerous chances that they got.

Egyptian star Ahmed Hassan played the whole game and looked in a very good shape. The Egyptian created many chances for his teammates, particularly Serhat Akin but the latter showed some woeful finishing and most of his shots went astray.

On the other side, Rapid Vienna looked extremely dangerous with their counter attacks and they managed to score the equalizer from a well taken freekick in the 82nd minute.

It appears that lack of sharpness from the strikers is the main problem for Anderlecht at the moment. The Belgian Jupiler League title holders doesn't have a quality forward at the time being especially after the departure of the team top scorer last season Mohamed Tchite.

Anderlecht are reportedly looking for strikers but since the transfer window will be in January, the lub will have to cope with the shortage of forwards.

Aside from this news, Egyptian captain Ahmed Hassan will be banned from representing Egypt for three games follwing his sending off in the Burundi-Egypt match. Due to this Hassan will not feature in the last qualifying match plus the first two matches in the upcoming ACN in Ghana 2006 if Egypt managed to reach the finals.
