Egyptian captain Ahmed Hassan was shown the red card
for the first time in his career with the Egyptian national
team in the away draw with Burundi. Hassan regretted
his behaviour and apologized to his teammates and fans.
Out of shape Pharaohs drew with Burundi after a poor
match from the Egyptian side. Hassan was sent off three
minutes after the kick off of the 2nd half and this
contributed more to the poor show and result for the
Pharaohs.
Egyptian captain Hassan apologized to his teammates
for making their job even more difficult and for the
fans as a draw with Burundi wasn't what the Egyptian
fans expect.
Hassan revealed on ModernSport TV channel: "I
apologize to all my teammates and fans. My reaction
was violent but I didn't mean to hit the player in the
face at all. I was heavily marked and they made many
harsh tackles against me in the first half but I didn't
lose my temper. In the 2nd half, the player sent me
to the ground and it was unfair challenge and I automatically
tried to push him away from me but my leg hit his face
by accident. I didn't mean it at all".
When asked about his latest comments about asking his
manager Verchauteren to let him rest in the coming games,
the Egyptian replied:
"I want to clear things up. I didn't ask my manager not
to use me in the coming games. We play a match every 3-4 days
and I was upset with the defeat against Fenerbahce and losing
chance to play in the Champions League and needed some rest
for that reason. It's more like a psychological problem than
a physical one:".
"Another thing is is the upcoming month of Ramadan.
My coach understands that I will be fasting on matchdays and
so, he will not use me in the full games".
