Hassan's Anderlecht failed to advance to the group stages of the prestigious Champions League and will continue in the UEFAA cup instead after a disappointing 0-2 home loss to Fenerbahce ion Wednesday night.

Hassan played a full match against Fenerbahce but couldn't help Anderlecht with the result. The Mauves suffered an early goal which came through Mateja Kezman in the opning minutes of the game and the homeside failed to recover from the early shock and counce back into the game.

Fenerbahce were the better side in the game as they contolled the rythm of gameplay thanks to their experienced world class players, Alex, Roberto Carlos, and Kezman.

On the other side, Anderlecht were unlucky as they hit the bar twice in the first half but the homeside, appeared clearly out of shape and clearly lacked the quality and experience.

Hassan's performance was OK. He won alot of fouls and linked considerable well with his teammates but none of his passes or shot caused a threat on goal.

The Egyptian admitted that conceding an early goal at home made things alot harder for the home team.

"The game could not start worse for us. We gave away a goal just minutes into the game. That goal destabilised us completely. A quick goal would've gotten us into the match again, but we weren't lucky with two balls hitting the crossbar."

Other Anderlecht players, Van Damme, Deschacht and the goalkeeper Zitka all agreed that the best team have won.

Jelle Van Damme said: "They were just more efficient than us. During the halftime break we still believed in the qualification, but the ball just didn't want to go in..."

While Olivier Deschacht commented: "The best team won. Giving away two goals like that learns us that we are not ready for the Champions League. We weren't concentrated enough and made a huge mistake on that first goal."

Goalkeeper Daniel Zitka added: "We didn't score a single goal, but they scored three against us. We simply don't belong in the Champions League. No one wants the Uefa Cup, everyone was focused on the Champions League."
