Wrote by: EP's webmaster

Ahmed Hassan came on as a late sub in Anderlecht's away clash with Standard in the Belgian Cup semi final. The job was already a difficult one for the Mauves as they lost the first leg by a single goal. After a goal less first half, Standard scored from a low shot but a minute after the introduction of the Egyptian Hassan, the Mauves equalized.

The Egyptian inspired his side to get back into the game and they almost did but a fatal mistake from the keeper Zitka resulted in a penalty kick for the homeside, from which they added their 2nd goal which mean the exit of Hassan's side from cup. It should be noted that the Egyptian was supposed to start but he suffered from flu in the past few days so he only came on as sub near the end.

Hassan missed the first half as he was on bench. The Egyptian was suffering from flu and Verchauteren couldn't use the Egyptian at full potential. He only introduced him at the 64th minute and the Egyptian showed some good touches and accurate distribution.

Hassan came on when Standard scored from a powerful low shot. The Mauves needed to score twice to advance to the final and Hassan was about to help them achieve their objective but a fatar error from Zitka ruined everything.

A minute after Hassan came on, Anderlecht equalized from a low shot from inside the box. After the goal, the Mauves continued their pressure on Standard and the homeside retreated to defend. At this stage, Ahmed Hassan hold the ball well under pressure and showed some neat touches and vision.

While Anderlecht were close to score another goal, their goalkeeper Zitka failed to control the ball and lost it to a striker, the latter tried to dribble past Zitka but the Anderlecht goalkeeper fouled him inside the box and the referee awarded the homeside a penalty kick from which they added their 2nd goal.

Anderlecht couldn't do much after the 2nd goal. The players realized that they have a mountain to climb and that their mission is almost impossible.

The game ended in 2-1 win for Standard who advanced to the final (3-1 win on aggregate).
