Belgian league leaders Racing Genk managed to maintain their top spot in the table after their home match against Ahmed Hassan's Anderlecht.

Hassan's side were about to clinch the top spot as they scored a goal through Frutos in the first half but a 2nd half goal from the homeside ended the game in a 1-1 draw.

Egyptian star Ahmed Hassan played the game from the start and was on the verge of scoring just a few seconds from the kick off when he headed the ball just over the bar from inside the six yards box after a fine cross from the left wing. If Hassan kept his head down, he would have put the Mauves ahead early on but unfortunately, the chance was wasted.

Anderlecht continued to dominate the first half after their strong start and they managed to take the lead in the 29th minute through Frutos who buried the ball home from one on one situation with the goalkeeper after a fine through pass by Mbarek Boussoufa.

The game was full of harsh tackling and cynical fouls which resulted in Boussoufa and Frutos suffering cut wounds in their faces. Both players carried on though after receiving treatment and having a few stitches.

In the 2nd half, Anderlecht were happy to sit back and defend which allowed their opponents to gain control over the game and scored the equalizer in the 72nd minute from a powerful header by Goran Ljubojevic which left the goalkeeper Zitka with no chance at all.

After the equalizer, Anderlecht coach introduced the striker Mohammed Tchite to the field and Anderlecht started to cause danger again.

Egyptian star Ahmed Hassan shone in the final stages of the match as he played the role of the playmaker instead of Boussoufa. Hassansent two amazing through passes to Tchite who was onside in both occassions but the match referee whistled wrongly for offside in both chances.

Hassan had a chance to score by himself near the end when the ball was crossed to him in the box and he tried to bury the ball home on the volley from close range but the shot lacked power and the goalkeeper had no problem saving it.

In the stoppage time, Genk had a close chance from a powerful shot that went just over to end the match in a draw.

With this draw, Genk will remain at top of the table with 57 points while Anderlecht come 2nd with 55 points.
