Hassan's Anderlecht let them visitors come back from being 2-0 behind to score two goals in the 2nd half and end the game in a draw. The coach Vercauteren made two strange substitutions in the final 3rd of the match which resulted in his side conceding two goals. Hassan played from the start and was one of the best players on the field, but the coach decided to replace him with Boussoufa which allowed AEK Athens to gain more control on midfield.

Wasteful Anderlecht failed to achieve a single win in the Champions League as they let AEK Athens come back from being 2-0 behind and end the clash in a 2-2 draw.

The draw meant that Anderlecht will go out of both Champions League and UEFA Cup as well as they failed to end 3rd and remained rock bottom with 4 points.

Egyptian star Ahmed Hassan played the game from the start and was everywhere on the pitch in the 65 minutes that he played. Hassan held the ball well under pressure, his passes were elegant and accurate and he also contributed well in attack and was involved in the making of the first goal.

The match opener came in the 38th minute through Vanden Borre. The goal came after confusion in AEK's defense because of the pressure from Frutos and Ahmed Hassan on defenders, this resulted in the ball to be poorly cleared to find Vanden Borre who buried it home to give Anderlecht the lead that was deserved at this stage of the game.

In the 2nd half, AEK tried hard to get back into the game and they had too many men in Anderlecht's area. Anderlecht continued their open play and Hassan impressed in holding the ball under pressure and in using his individual skills to shoot from outside the box in one occassion and to cross from the left to Tcheti after beating two defenders.

In the 63rd minute, Anderlecht managed to double the score through Frutos who made a good follow on Tcheti's shot that was parried by AEK goalkeeper.

In the 65th minute, the Mauves coach decided to bring Boussoufa on to replace Hassan. The manager wanted to rest the Egyptian but the match was far from over and Hassan's departure allowed AEK to have more freedom in midfield as Boussoura is a puraly attacking player while Hassan can do well in both attack and defense.

In the 75th minute, the guests clawed a goal back through Lakis who scored from a well placed header after a cross from the left wing. Lakis was totally unmarked inside the box and headed home to make the score 2-1.

In the 79th minute, Anderlecht's coach took of his best player Frutos who just came from injury and replaced him with Legear. This was another bad move from the Mauves coach as it allowed AEK to push more forward and score their equalizer through Cirillo who scored from a bicycle kick from inside the box.

In the final minutes, Anderlecht fought hard to get their lead back but poor finishing ended the game in a 2-2 draw.

The draw means Lille's qualification together with Milan to knock out stage while AEK go to UEFA Cup.
