Sabah claimed that Jean Tigana regards Ahmed Hassan
as the key player:
Besiktas French manager Jean Tigana gave a mid-season
report to the board. His words about Ahmed Hassan were
important for the player. "Hassan is a hardworking
player who is quick and talented. His only problem is
not liking the team play. He wants to be free on the
pitch. He is my irregular prince as he doesn't play
in the team-system."
Ahmed Hassan is also a favourite player from the board's
perspective. The board doesn't pay fees regularly because
of the poor situation and Ahmed Hassan doesn't make
a problem like the other foreigners and wants to take
his money with all the team. Finally a board member
told Sabah about Hassan, "He has ten clubs' interest.
He can play anywhere but his choice is Besiktas."
And the Fanatik newspaper, the sports daily, searched
the changing plans of the team and wrote Tigana's report
about the foreigners:
Ahmed Hassan: He is not a typical player who
can play in our system. He wants to play free when he
can find a large area. He has quality but he doesn't
give extra strength to the team. He'll be away from
us because of the African Cup. We need him at the start
but he'll be in tournament. If things continues as it
is Hassan will miss the start.

Ailton: He lives in his past. Ailton does not belong
to the team. He promised me to be as he was in his Germany
career but he continued poorly and was sent off again in the
Sivas match. He talks different and does different. Ailton
can't be useful to us.
Youla: He is a quick forward. I don't know what he
did before me but I can say he lost his self-confidence. He
said he is not happy. He had to be successful to be happy
but he couldn't.
Pancu: I can't say we can work with him in healthy
conditions. At the start, I though of him as a defensive midfielder
but he has an attacking mentality and had a concentration
problem. We couldn't open a place to Pancu at the front as
he didn't force us into that.
