Despite a win with three goals versus Vitoria Guimares, Ahmed Hassan's Besiktas couldn't qualify to the next round of the UEFA Cup. Besiktas could only get through by relying on the defeat of Bolton Wanderers. But Bolton could draw with Sevilla, a result which would put both teams through together.

Egyptian player Ahmed Hassan was on the pitch until the 58th minute and was changed for Veysel due to fatigue. Hassan added to the score with an assist for Besiktas' second goal. Youla's goal and Ibrahim Toraman's double earned three points for the Black Eagles, but not qualification.
