Besiktas manager Riza Calimbay resigned today after the board called Gordon Milne to Istanbul to fill the position of Director of Football.

Riza Calimbay handed his resignation letter to the board, under the pressure of Besiktas' poor start to the season. This included the teams's latest 0-0 draw at home to Kayserispor, which left the club in seventh place, and a full 13 points off the top. The board may decide to hire Gordon Milne as the new manager after this development.

It is still unclear what this will mean for Besiktas' Ahmed Hassan, who has been considering his options for next season.

Gordon Milne is the legendary manager of Besiktas who won three Championships in a row. The 68 year old Englishman has also worked as England Youth Team manager, Coventry City manager, and Leicester City manager, as well as Director of Football at Newcastle United.

More on Besiktas soon as the story develops.
