In a thrilling derby encounter, Dortmund lost at home to Schalke by a single goal. Dortmund controlled gameplay most of the time but they failed to convert. On the other side, Schalke used their counter attackjs well and managed to score from one of these few counter attacking moves to return home with preicious three points.

Zidan had another chance to start as he played alongside Barrios in attack. While he played a fine game, his finishing wasn't sharp and he wasn't able to hit the target throughout the ninety minutes he played.

Zidan's first attempt on goal came from a shot on the edge of the box but it sailed over the bar. Just before this shot, Barrios sent a shot at goal which took a wicked deflection off a defender and hit the underside of the bar. According to video replays, the ball already passed the line but the referee thought otherwise and ruled out a legit for Dortmund.

The only goal fo the match came through a fast counter attacking move. It started with Barrios giving away possession which resulted in a quick move by Schalke. The ball reached Altintop in the left wing, he passed it on the floor to find Farfan and the latter buried it home directly with his left to give the guests the lead.

Dortmund tried to get back into the game but they failed to create real chances. Zidan had a few half chances from long range efforts as he played as a late striker. He sent the ball over in three attempts while he had an effort on goal from the edge of the box but the ball was parried by the goalkeeper.

In the 2nd half, Valdez came on to replace the dissapointing Barrios but he wasn't able to hit the target either. Zidan sent the Paraguayan a gift pass near the end of the match but the goalkeeper managed to block his shot.

Schalke, on the other hand, looked dangerous with their few counter attacks. Altintop in particular and the substitute Asamoah had a couple of real chances but their final touch was lacking.

After the match, the crowd started booing Dortmund players, a thing that sent Mohamed Zidan to the tunnel in tears.
