Zidan came on late in Dortmund's home clash with FC
Koln in the Bundesliga opening day. Zidan tried a shot
which went over, he also tested Mondragon with a bullet
drive from the edge of the box but the latter tipped
it wide for a corner. In the stoppage time, Zizou had
a golden chance to score from a one on one situation
with the keeper but Zidan sent the ball into his body
and the chance went begging.
Borussia Dortmund managed to win three
points from their first Bundesliga match this season.
They face FC Koln at home and won by a single goal which
came via Koln's substitute Matip who deflected the ball
into his own net in the 75th minute.
Jurgen Klopp decided to start with his
new signing Barrios alongside Valdez instead of Zidan
who was used as a key sub in the game.
Victory didn't come easy for the Dortmund
side despite their better play. They createwd more chances
than Koln but failed to convert. Valdez didn't cause
much danger but on the other side, the new signing Barrios
looked in a very good shape.
Dortmund's only goal in the game came
in the 75th minute after a few minutes from Zidan's
entry to the field. The own goal came through a corner
kick which was swung into the six yards box to find
Tinga and Barrios lurking and waiting for the ball.
Matip was there to clear the ball before them but he
sent it into his own net instead.
Zidan shone in the final minutes as he
outplayed the defense and struck a shot with his left
which went wide.
Minutes later, he controlled the ball
after it was headed downn to him by Barrios and powered
a shot with his left but it was denied by the goalkeeper
Mondragon who turned it behind for a corner.
Zidan also almost created a goal for his
side as he crossed the ball from the corner flag to
find Tinga who tried to head it home into the far corner
but a fdefender headed it clear off the line.
In the stoppage time, Zidan ad a golden chance to score from
a one on one situation with the goalkeeper. However, Zizou
sent the ball poorly into the body of Mondragon and squandered
the chance.
It should be noted that the other Egyptian in
the Bundesliga Gamal Hamza didn't make it to the selection
of Mainz in their 2-2 home draw with Leverkusen. Mainz scored
an early goal but Leverkusen managed to score two goals before
the end of the first half to end the game to their advantage
by two goals to one.
Ten minutes before the final whistle, Mainz
managed to equalize to salvage a point from the game.
It is also worth noting that Dortmund will face
Karlsruhe in the 2nd round of Cup. The game will take place
on 22 or 23 September at the Wildpark Stadium in Karlsruhe.
