Zidan started for Dortmund in their away clash with
Karlsruhe after recovering from intestinal infection.
The Dortmund forward gave his side the lead in the first
half with a superb touch. Zidan move in well to receive
a fine cross by Kuba and he managed to bea ththe keeper
for the ball before slotting it home with a neat direct
touch.
Egyptian star Mohamed Zidan was doubtful
for the away match versus Karlsruhe as he was suffering
from intestinal infection. Zidan managed to participate
in the last training before the match and a fitness
test revealed that he can travel with the team and play.
Zizou started the match in attack while
the other striker Alexander Frei remained on bench.
It took Zidan just 20 minutes to appear on the score
sheet. Zidan's goal was the highlight of the game which
wtinessed a few more chances for both sides.
Zidan's goal came through a cross from
the right wing by the Hungaruian Hajnal, Zidan moved
in to receive the cross but he was challenged by the
last defender and the goalkeeper who rushed outt of
his net in an attempt to collect the ball before the
Egyptian. However, Zidan was faster than both Karlsruhe
players and sent the ball elegantly home with a direct
touch.
Zidan's overall performance in the game
was good. He showed some good close control and passes
especially in the 2nd half when he managed to sidestep
the goalkeeper in the right flank and dribbled past
another defender before laying the ball superbly to
Nuri Shahin but the latter couldn't convert.
Zidan had to come off in the 73rd and was replaced by Frei.
The substitution was made to rest Zidan who wasn't 100% fit
for the game and to allow Alexander Frei some play time without
risking the introduction of another forward at the expense
of a midfielder or a defender so it was the best to take Zidan
off.
In the final minutes of the game, Dortmund tried
to defend their lead and didn't risk going forward much. However,
they could have increased the deficit via Kuba who almost
scored from a one on one situation with the keeper but the
latter make a fine fingertip save and turned the ball away
for a corner.
On the other hand, Karlsruhe looked better in
the 2nd half but they couldn't create many chances. They got
a chance to level the score in the final minutes but Subotic
cleared off the line to keep the score 0-1 till the final
whistle.
With this impressive result and second consecutive
win, Dortmund improved their league ranking as they moved
up to the 4th spot in the table with 24 points.
