In an exciting game, HSV lost by two goals
to one in the German cup. The original time ended in
a 1-1 draw but Wolfsburg managed to score the winner
in the 2nd period of extra time to win the game and
knock HSV out of the cup.
The match was hardly fought and both sides
created chances. Wolfsburg looked more organized especially
at the back and so, most of HSV's danger came from freekicks
and long range shots. On the other hand, HSV couldn't
capitalize on possession in the midfield area because
of Wolfsburg's pressing.
Wolfsburg took the lead early on from
a penalty kick which was converted by Grafite in the
17th minute.
HSV got many chances to level the score
but the quality of finishing was poor. Guerrero, for
example, had a golden chance to level the score when
he took the ball past two defenders and rounded the
goalkeeper as well, but his final touch was poor as
he sent the ball wide.
Van der Vaart also had a shot on goal
that was denied by the post and Jarolim wasted a golden
chance in the 2nd half.
On the other hand, Wolfsburg also had
their chances and most of their danger came from the
right wing.
Egyptian star Zidan came on in the 2nd
half to replace Guerrero. Zidan picked up a yellow card
after a late challenge and almost got a second yellow
for another foul but the referee gave him just a warning.
