Zizou, the "zuper" in Denmark
and at Mainz, has now been dubbed a "super-flop"
by German reporters. Yes, the €6 million signing's
record at Hamburg hasn't been great - a goal in 13 league
appearances - but he hasn't had sufficient chance, it
is fairer to say. He has also been unlucky with injury,
to the extent that 18-year-old Maxim Choupo-Moting has
even beaten him in the strikers' pecking order.
Aside from this, he received a vote of confidence from
the man at the top. "Zidan is staying, 100%,"
said Bernd to Bild.
"It is undisputable that Zidan has quality,"
he added.
"I'm not going to give up on him after half a year,"
he continued.
But Director of Sport Dietmar Beiersdorfer was unhappy
to see Zidan not perform despite the money spent on
him. "If one spends a large transfer fee, then
one surely expects that little bit more," he commented.
It is worth noting that Zidan's manager Huub Stevens, as EP
reported, returns to his native Holland to coach PSV Eindhoven
at the end of the season, and so the next campaign may be
different for the striker. This would particularly be the
case if his favourite manager at Mainz Juergen Klopp became
the new Hamburg manager, which isn't too far fetched.
It is also interesting that Hamburg did not deny loaning Zidan,
which is surely still a possibility. As fourth choice at the
front, or maybe third, loaning him out for the rest of the
season may still be a wise possibility. What is certain though,
is that they are not prepared to sell him.
