Mohamed Zidan played from the
start in tonight's away UEFA cup clash with Bergen which
ended in a 0-1 win for HSV. The only goal in the game
came in the 2nd half from a long range effort by the
Belgian central defender Vincent Kompany. Zizou played
in the left wing and did well throughout the 90 minutes
that he played.
Hamburger SV achieved an important away
win in the UEFA cup group stage as they won by a single
goal versus Norwegian side Bergen.
Zidan played from the start and was taken
off in the 90th minute. The Egyptian didn't play as
a lone forward as he couldn't prove himself in this
postion. Stevens took advantage of the Egyptian's versatility
and and gave him the duties of the injuried star Rafael
van der Vaart.
Zidan played very well in his new position
and caused alot of headache to Bergen defenders thanks
to his pace and dribbling skills.
The game was one way traffic as Berrgen
couldn't challenge HSV much and the quality of possession
from the HSV side helped them control the game till
the end.
HSV relied on shooting from range most
of the time and their only goal came from one of these
long range attempts. The only goal came through Vincent
Kompany who sent a looping shot with his right to strike
the foot of the post and go in to make the score 0-1.
Zizou did well in terms of movement and passing. However,
the Egyptian was a bit lacking in controlling the ball under
pressure and his passing was somewhat woeful. Rather than
that, he played a very good game and such a performance means
that the Egyptian will be back to selection even with the
return of injured players,: Van der Vaart, Guerrero and Castelen
as the Egyptian now plays a different role than being a pure
target men.
Zizou's best chance came from a superb individual
skill from the Egyptian who beat his man in the left sidefo
the box and struck it low from narrow angle but the goalkeeper
parried the shot away for a corner.
Zizou also assisted a disallowed goal in the
first alf when he sent a clever low pass to Jarolim but the
referee whistled for offside on the HSV midfielder.
