It is worth noting that in November 2005, Zizou was being
kept out of the Mainz line-up during his first spell, and
English club Everton were apparently interested. At the
time, Zidan admitted:
"I would love to be in the English Premier League."
Prior to that, in May 2004, Zidan was set to leave FC Midtjylland
but decided to carry on in Denmark till the January 2005
transfer window. At the time, EP revealed the clubs scouting
the Egyptian, and they included the same two English clubs,
Fulham and Tottenham.
The list of interested clubs at the time looks very similar
to the current one. "Hamburg, Leverkusen, Schalke 04,
Dortmund, Ajax, Celta Vigo, Bordeaux, Monaco, Tottenham
and Fulham" (EP:
22/5/07). It is thought that perhaps all but two clubs
on that list are currently following Zidan.
EP can provide a list of clubs currently chasing Zizou,
though some of these are not yet confirmed and there are
more: Fulham, Tottenham (England). Marseille, Monaco, Paris
SG (France). Hamburg, Hannover, Hertha Berlin, Nurnberg,
Stuttgart (Germany). Deportivo La Coruna, Osasuna (Spain).
Besiktas, Galatasaray (Turkey).
Zidan had told EP that the sides after him come from a
number of European leagues, namely "Germany, Spain,
England, France, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Greece and Holland."
However, he also made it clear on number of occasions that
he is extremely keen on staying in Germany next season.
