Mohamed Zidan impressed in his second half of the season at Mainz. The striker ended up 5th in the goal rankings of the Bundesliga, despite playing roughly half of the season.

In 20 games, Zizou netted 14 times. In the league Werder Bremen striker Miroslav Klose scored 13 but in 31 games, and Kevin Kuranyi (15 goals), Alexander Frei (16 goals) and Roy Makaay (16 goals) all played over 30 games. Bochum's Gekas was top scorer this season with 20.

Mohamed Zidan is over the moon with his personal achievements in the second half of the season and reads the entire top scorers list proudly from memory. He insists that he has played only one half of the season and that he has no regrets over his move to Mainz.

Zizou also revealed to EgyptianPlayers.com that he has interest from no fewer than nine European leagues, and added that he hops to win the EP Visitors' Player of the Season award for a fourth year running.

Zidan to EP: "Clubs from Germany, Spain, England, France, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Greece, Holland... I don't know what to do!"

EP: You showed yourself in a good way. 14 goals in 20 games...

Zidan: "Of course, of course. This is something that makes me proud of myself and of my abilities. I didn't play in the first half of the season as I was injured, had an operation, and the five games I featured in I wasn't a starter and they were all stop-start over long periods. But in the last period, I've played 15 games and scored 13 goals and this is a big achievement for me. I'm very proud of my performances and of myself."

EP: Mainz are relegated though. Does this make the season 'incomplete' in a way?

Zidan: "I came here with [Werder] Bremen in 1st and Mainz in the bottom place with 11 points. It was a very big risk. Not everyone understood the risk but of course I made the decision to go somewhere where I would play regularly. [At Mainz] I wouldn't have a settling period with the team. I would come and fit quickly in.

"I came to Mainz and people weren't expecting that I prove myself in this way. Thanks to God I proved myself, and now I have a very huge amount offers in front of me, and plenty of clubs are trying to take me. This for me is a big achievement."

EP: If we look at the stats, you scored many goals in a short period, whereas players like Klose who scored 13 goals in 31 games...

Zidan: "I consider myself to have played one period of the season only, not an entire campaign. I had 15 games for Mainz and two for Bremen. That makes only 17 games - one half-season - and in them I scored 14 goals. Because the other three games for Bremen were for just ten minutes, against Schalke, Mainz and Gladbach."

"Werder Bremen didn't know my abilities..."

EP: So does this send a message out to Werder Bremen, because they let you go?

Zidan: "Bremen let go of me but through my request. The only thing I direct to Bremen is that they didn't know my abilities correctly. They didn't know my abilities correctly. That's all.

"I'm very happy that I asked Bremen and that I left Bremen, and have no regret at all about coming to Mainz even though they went down. I've benefited a lot in these three to four months. It's been extremely beneficial for myself, my future and for my name too."

EP: You mentioned there are many clubs after you, and we know there are clubs from Germany, Spain and France who want you? What do you think of this and what is the latest?

Zidan: "There are so many clubs and, well, I don't know. I don't know exactly what I want! There are clubs from Germany, Spain, England, France, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Greece, Holland. From everywhere and I don't know what to do.

"But I am very comfortable here in the Bundesliga. I am happy here and the offers from Germany are good ones and from big clubs."

EP: What will you base your decision on? Playing time? Financial terms? The name of the club itself?

Zidan: "Everything... It depends on the place I will feel comfortable in, that will suit me, where I will feel that the manager wants me, and I will play regularly, and of course it's a decision for myself. Because now my income at Mainz is very good, and so the offer has to be right. And you can see, the offer has to suit my abilities. I'm now 25 years old; at the end of the year I'll be 26. I have to think of my distant future. I have ten years and I must prepare my future correctly. I want to go step by step. I want to play and want an offer that suits me.

"My favourite is currently Germany. I'm used to the place, the league and can now speak the language. I want to stay here for a bit. I want to prove myself more and then start in a new place. I still feel that I haven't taken enough from the German Bundesliga."

"I hope I win the EP Visitors' Player of the Season..."

EP: Is there any way you can see yourself staying at Mainz in the Bundesliga 2?

Zidan: "It's hard. It's possible but I see that it's hard. I want to learn more and this experience comes from the Bundesliga."

EP: The Official EP End-of-Season Poll is about to start. You've won it the last three years in a row. What's your opinion. Will you be the EP Visitors' Player of the Season yet again and do you think you should?

Zidan: "I don't know to be honest. If you work out who plays, Mido has been injured and hasn't played much, and that leaves nobody but [Hossam] Ghaly, me and Ahmed Hassan. Anderlecht won the league and of course he plays regularly. But I see that I have proved my worth very much this season and 13 goals in 15 games proves that.

"I'm still in competition for this title, and that proves that I've kept my form as I won the last three. It's not important who wins as such but I had to keep my form. I've kept my form and level. If Ahmed Hassan wins it, he deserves it, but I'm always at the top, competing for the title. If I win first or second place that would be a big honour for me and be good for my image. I hope I do win the first place."

Mohamed Zidan concluded by asking EP to keep in contact with him over the coming period in order to keep the fans updated. He is also looking forward to answering all the fans' questions in the MOHAMED ZIDAN FAN INTERVIEW, coming your way shortly!
