However, the homeside pulled level from a penalty kick later on. In the 2nd half, Zidan led a counter attacking move which ended with a goal through Gerber. Zidan strikes again!:

Mohamed Zidan scored his 12th Bundesliga goal in the away clash versus Stuttgart. The goal made Zizou equal to Werder Bremen top scorers Miroslav Klose and Diego who scored 12 goals as well. However, Zidan only played a regular in the 2nd half of season while his rivals had the chance to feature in almost every match this season.

The goal: Zidan vs Mathijsen:

Zidan's goal was an incredible piece of skill, he received a long ball and dashed forward, Mathijsen tried a sliding tackle to steal the ball from Zizou, but the Egyptian kept the ball at his feet and dribbled past the Dutch national team centre back before firing the ball into the top corner. Zidan's goal will be without a doubt, the goal of the week and might be one of the best Bundesliga goals this season.

Despite taking the lead in this amazing way, Zidan teammates couldn't maintain it for long as Pekovic caught Jarolim's leg just inside the box and the referee pointed immediately to the spot.

The penalty kick was converted by the Argentinean midfielder Juan Pablo Sorin to make the score 1-1.

In the 2nd half, Mainz relied completely on counter attacks with Zidan as the only striker and had Andreasen/Gerber help him as attacking midfielders. On the other side, Stuttgart looked out of shape as they couldn't cause any real danger despite their need to score.

Mainz' 2nd goal came from a counter attacking move. A long ball was played into the direction of Zidan who Advanced with it and passed it low to Andreasen inside the box, the latter laid it to the oncoming Gerber who faced the keeper and scored.

Just seven minutes before the final whistle, Mainz defense failed once more to maintain the lead as they let Stuttgart equalize from a corner kick to end the game in a 2-2 draw while they were very close to win the three points.

A point Won or Lost:

Considering Mainz situation in the table, a point from this away clash won't help them get away from the relegation zone. Mainz could have defended their lead but they simply don;'t have enough quality in their defense and midfield. Zidan's side still have hope to stay in the Bundesliga but they need to win enough games in the remaining few weeks.

Zidan in Arena Team of the Week:

Mohamed Zidan was chosen amongst the best elven players in the Bundesliga for the current week thanks to his great goal and impressive performance.
