In the 2nd half, Mainz relied completely on counter attacks
with Zidan as the only striker and had Andreasen/Gerber
help him as attacking midfielders. On the other side, Stuttgart
looked out of shape as they couldn't cause any real danger
despite their need to score.
Mainz' 2nd goal came from a counter attacking
move. A long ball was played into the direction of Zidan
who Advanced with it and passed it low to Andreasen inside
the box, the latter laid it to the oncoming Gerber who faced
the keeper and scored.
Just seven minutes before the final whistle,
Mainz defense failed once more to maintain the lead as they
let Stuttgart equalize from a corner kick to end the game
in a 2-2 draw while they were very close to win the three
points.
A point Won or Lost:
Considering Mainz situation in the table,
a point from this away clash won't help them get away from
the relegation zone. Mainz could have defended their lead
but they simply don;'t have enough quality in their defense
and midfield. Zidan's side still have hope to stay in the
Bundesliga but they need to win enough games in the remaining
few weeks.
Zidan in Arena Team of the Week:
Mohamed Zidan was chosen amongst the best
elven players in the Bundesliga for the current week thanks
to his great goal and impressive performance.
