The first chance came early on in the first half when Zizou flicked the ball on with his head to Ruman who faced the goalkeeper but placed the ball into his body to waste Mainz' best chance in the first half.

In the 2nd half, Zidan used his skill to beat his man in the right side of the box, the Egyptian then sent a great low cross to beat the defense and reach the oncoming Feulner who blasted the ball over the bar to waste another golden chance.

The only goal in the game came after a foul in the box on Ruman and the referee whistled for a penalty kick for Mainz. Andreasen was the penalty taker instead of Zidan as the Egyptian wasted penalty kick in the last match. Andreasen converted the penalty in the 51st minute to give Mainz the lead.

In the last quarter of the game, Klopp rested all his forwards and brought fresh legs on. He kept Zidan till the 84th minute and then replaced him with Niculae.
