EXCLUSIVE:
Mainz striker Mohamed Zidan says the
start he has made with his new club could not have been
better, though he stresses there is still a lot more
to achieve.

Zizou has taken the Bundesliga by storm
since moving to the Reds. He is top scorer since the
winter break, scoring seven goals in six games, and
has lead Mainz from bottom place into a respectable
league position.
The striker told EgyptianPlayers.com on Wednesday evening
that he is happy with life at Mainz, and is thinking
of nothing but his club.
He added that he hopes his European form can be transformed
into equally impressive performances with the Egyptian
national team, where he is yet to make an impact.
Zidan also admitted that the limelight he is under helps
him perform; a reason for moving to Mainz in the first
place, according to previous comments he made to EP...
EP: It's been a great start with Mainz...
Zidan: "Of course I've done well from the
start and it can't get better than this!"
EP: You've scored seven goals in six games and been
selected as Player of the Month...
Zidan: "For me it's a very big thing to start
so well. I've very happy that I've now been with Mainz
for around a month or a month and a half and done well,
having spent two years at Bremen and had no luck during
my time there. All my wishes are to return to the form
and level I was at in Denmark, and of course to achieve
something good with the team. I went to Mainz with a
task to do."
EP: And Mainz are up in the league standings now and
could even finish in the top half...
Zidan: "We are currently going well, but we aren't
thinking of finishing in the top half. We are concentrating
on keeping up how we're going, and our concentration
is on achieving something in the league by staying in
the Bundesliga for next season."

EP: You have no problems at Mainz currently?..
Zidan: "Not at all. I am content at Mainz and
they love me here and don't know what to do with me! I'm
happy here and not thinking of anything currently except
Mainz and to achieve good things with them."
EP: You seem to perform better when there is attention on
you...
Zidan: "It's not just attention. I'm able to
play and perform better when I'm at a place where people
appreciate me and know my abilities. I have to be somewhere
where I'm given what I deserve and not just made to sit
there unneeded."
EP: But will you be able to take this form into the national
team, or is there something almost 'missing'?
Zidan: "There's nothing missing. When I'm there
I try with all my effort. But when we go to the camp it's
usually for four days or so and I don't get to adapt with
the team. The system is different and this doesn't help
me adapt with the players. It takes time and in four days
there is not enough time. But I'll try my best to prove
myself."
A "zuper" surprise is coming soon for EgyptianPlayers.com
