Despite the perfect start that Zidan and
Mainz had in their away game versus Aachen, the 2nd
half was a different story as Mainz couldn't maintain
their lead and conceded two successive goals early on
in the 2nd half.
Zidan and Mainz started their away game
well and were on the verge of winning after a flawless
first half where they scored a goal through Zizou.
Zidan used his skill to beat his marker
and tried to bury the ball past the goalkeeper but the
ball came off the body of the oncoming keeper to find
a teammate who sent it back to the Egyptian and this
time Zidan made no mistake and sent the ball home to
give Mainz the precious lead.
Mainz continued to impress in the first
half as they limited their opponents chances of getting
back into the game.
However, lack of concentration from Mainz
defenders in the opening minutes of the 2nd half cost
them dear as they conceded two goals from dead ball
situations. Both goals were a result of poor marking
and positioning from defenders and the result became
2-1 for Aachen just after four minutes from the kick
off of the 2nd half.
Zidan and his teammates couldn't get back
into the game as the himsedie narrowed the gaps and
fought for every ball which made Mainz job a difficult
one.
Aachen even had the chance to score a third goal from a
penalty kick after a handball inside the box but Wache managed
to save the spot kick and the score remained 2-1.
In the dying moments of the game, one of Mainz
players was elbowed in the face inside the box and the referee
awarded Mainz a penalty kick which could change things in
the game. The penalty taker was Zidan but he couldn't convert
it as the goalkeeper guessed right and stopped Zizou's shot.
Zidan was in tears after missing this big
chance to level the score as his side squandered the golden
chance to end their game in a draw and extend their unbeaten
record to seven games.
