"Bremen don't want me to go anywhere else..."

Zizou said to EP on Wednesday evening that though he is happy to return to Mainz, where he spent a good season, Werder Bremen refused to sell him anywhere else due to a deal between the two clubs from the time of his loan.

He added that he received other offers from Germany and Spain, but that he himself wants to stay in Germany.

"I'll put in all my effort in order to stay in the league..."

The striker is aware of Mainz's poor league position but vows to help them avoid relegation, saying that by buying him and others, they can survive. Mainz have around a week ago loaned out Zidan's team-mate at Werder Bremen Leon Andersen.

Importantly, Zidan has insisted on a relegation clause in his contract, allowing him to leave for a certain fee should Mainz drop to the Bundesliga 2.

EP: EP visitors want to know the latest about your future...

Zidan:
"It's almost certainly Mainz.

"There still hasn't been a final decision until now. I woke up this morning to read in the papers that I've been sold but we're still waiting for Bremen's final acceptance or rejection."

EP: Aren't there any other offers?

Zidan: "Bremen don't want me to go anywhere else; they've promised Mainz this in the past.

"There were other offers and there are some clubs that I negotiated with. But Bremen aren't welcoming any offers to sell me anyway, except that they've promised Mainz.

"I was very comfortable at Mainz and I spent a good season with them. So the agreement between me and them has been completed.

"I have agreed with them and they have agreed with Bremen. Now we are just waiting for Bremen's final decision."

EP: What's your feeling leaving from the top placed team to the bottom placed team?

Zidan: "I want to go somewhere to play football. I don't want to sit on the bench.

"I've tried time and time again with Bremen but it hasn't worked out. There is no understanding between me and the manager.

"I want to go somewhere to play, where people appreciate me and appreciate my level, and play me.

"I have a relegation release clause in my contract"

"Mainz being bottom is a difficult thing, but if I go there and if they get several other players then we can get up from the 18th place. I'll put in all my effort in every match in order to stay in the league. And if they go down I have insured myself. In the contract is a clause that if we go down I can leave for a certain price."

EP: Do you want to stay in Germany then?

Zidan: "At the moment I want to prove my presence here in Germany. I want to play here for at least another year or two and then go somewhere else in Europe. But I prefer to stay here now.

"I got offers from Spain but I myself said that I'd prefer to stay in Germany."

Zizou added that Werder Bremen's confirmation could come any time now, and that he is waiting for it. Should it happen in the next couple of days as expected, he would have to fly to Spain to join Mainz's winter-break camp.
