Zidan Scores & Leads Werder to Liga Pokal Final

Mohamed Zidan's Werder played their first official game this season as they faced Hamburg in the German league Cup. Zidan started the game alongside Klose in attack and managed to score the first goal. The Egyptian also the best chance for Werder in the first half.

Egyptian talented striker Mohamed Zidan was the top scorer for Werder in the preseason stage. He continued to impress and scored the first goal for his side in the first official match of the season against Hamburg in the German league cup semi final.

Zizou played the full match, he started alongside Miroslav Klose in attack. Zizou was the most dangerous Bremen player throughout the game and had the best chance in the first half.

Zidan's biggest chance in the first half came via a through pass which made him in the clear. However, the Egyptian had to turn to face the goal which allowed both the goalkeeper and a defender to get in his way, the Egyptian didn't gave up and rounded both in style. However, his shot was blocked by another defender who made a sliding tackle and prevented Zizou fom giving Werder the lead.

On the other side, Hamburg had one real chance in this half through Guerero who got the ball behind the defende and tried to bury the ball home into the far corner but Werder goalkeeper managed to parry his shot.


In the 2nd half, Werder continued their pressure and managed to take the lead in the 49th minute through Mohamed Zidan. Jensen trapped the ball well and sent a clever through pass to Klose who laid it superbly to Zidan who made no mistake and buried the ball home with a quick shot.

After the goal, Werder couldn't control the midfield area and Hamburg had most of the ball possession. This gave them a chance to create real chances in front of gaol. The most dangerous one was for their striker Sanogo who powered a header at goal but it was denied by the foot of the post.

The pressure from Hamburg gave them the equalizer therough Sanogo who received a clever through pass which made him face to face with the goalkeeper. Sanogo sent the ball low into the back of the net to make the score 1-1.

The turning point of the game was the sending off of the former Ajax midfielder and the current Hamburg player Nijel De Jong who made a harsh tackle on Frings. As a result, the referee showed him a straight red card and Hamburg had to continue the game with ten men on the field.

Werder took advantage of the extra man and scored the winning goal through the German international Frings who shot the ball into the top corner from the edge of the box to make the score 2-1 and to send Bremen to the final.

It should be noted that Werder will play the winner from Shalke 04 and Bayern Munich in the league cup final.
