In the 2nd half, Werder continued their pressure and managed
to take the lead in the 49th minute through Mohamed Zidan.
Jensen trapped the ball well and sent a clever through pass
to Klose who laid it superbly to Zidan who made no mistake
and buried the ball home with a quick shot.
After the goal, Werder couldn't control the
midfield area and Hamburg had most of the ball possession.
This gave them a chance to create real chances in front
of gaol. The most dangerous one was for their striker Sanogo
who powered a header at goal but it was denied by the foot
of the post.
The pressure from Hamburg gave them the equalizer
therough Sanogo who received a clever through pass which
made him face to face with the goalkeeper. Sanogo sent the
ball low into the back of the net to make the score 1-1.
The turning point of the game was the sending
off of the former Ajax midfielder and the current Hamburg
player Nijel De Jong who made a harsh tackle on Frings.
As a result, the referee showed him a straight red card
and Hamburg had to continue the game with ten men on the
field.
Werder took advantage of the extra man and
scored the winning goal through the German international
Frings who shot the ball into the top corner from the edge
of the box to make the score 2-1 and to send Bremen to the
final.
It should be noted that Werder will play the
winner from Shalke 04 and Bayern Munich in the league cup
final.
