Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan played a full match for Werder in their preseason friendly versus the French side Bordeaux. The match was a chance for Werder supporters to say "good bye" to their French player Johan Micoud who joined Bordeaux recently after a successful period at Werder Bremen.

Ironically, the only goal in the game was scored by Micoud who fired the ball home from a tight angle in the left side of the box into the far corner.

Werder were the better side in the first half as they had most of the ball possession. However, they couldn't create alot of chances because of the very well organized defense from the French side.

Zidan had a goal denied in the 22nd minute when Klasnic laid the ball to him, the Egyptian got in one on one situation with the goalkeeper and scored. However, the referee's assistant had his flag up there for offside.

During half time, Klasnic came off and was replaced by the Portuguese international Almeida. Both Almeida and Zidan got a chance each to level the score in the second half. However, both couldn't convert.

Werder Bremen: Wiese (46. Reinke) – Owomoyela (46. Fritz), Fahrenhorst (76. Pasanen), Naldo, Womé – Baumann, Vranjes, Schulz (64. Andreasen), Jensen – Zidan, Klasnic (46. Almeida)

Girondins Bordeaux: Ramé – Menegazzo, Jurietti, Francia, Jemmali, Micoud, Faubert, Marange, Mavuba, Planus, Chamakh

Goals: 0:1 (23') Micoud
