Mohamed Zidan continued
to impress in the preseason games and scored a goal
for Werder in their friendly with Essen. Zidan took
advantage of a defensive error and controlled the ball
well just inside the box before sending it home with
his right. The game ended in a 5-0 win for Werder Bremen.
Werder Bremen faced a slightly stronger
opponent this afternoon. They played away versus Essen
in another preseason preparation match.
Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan played
from the start alongside Klasnic in attack. Both strikers
played the first 45 minutes and were replaced during
half time.
The first goal in the game came through
Klasnic who scored just four minutes after the kick
off. The goal came through a superb chip from Klasnic
from the left wing and the ball beat the goalkeeper
and fell behind him into the back of the net.
A few minutes later, Zidan had a golden
chance from one on one situation with the goalkeeper.
However, Zidan couldn't round the keeper who saved the
ball at Zizou's feet.
Minutes later, Zidan managed to double
the lead for Werder when he took advantage of a defensive
error, the ball fell to Zizou who controlled it well
and buried it home with his right to make the score
2-0.
In the 2nd half, the Portuguese striker Almeida scored the
3rd goal through a beautiful left footed strike into the
top corner.
The 4th goal came through Patrick Owomoyela
who fired a low shot into the bottom corner from inside
the box.
The 5th goal for Werder came near the end
through Leon Andreasen who powered a low shot at goal from
just outside the box, the goalkeeper of Essen got a hand
to it but he couldn't keep it out and the game ended in
a comfortable 5-0 win for Werder Bremen.
It should be noted that Zidan injured his
ankle in the first half but he was able to carry on. Hopefully
this injury won't be anything serious and he will continue
to feature in the coming preparation games.
