Zidan played the game from the start to end alongside the striker Benjamin Auer. It took Zizou a few minutes to get his first chances in the game. The ball was played long to the onside Egyptian who managed to trick his marker twice before firing a shot into the top corner. However, Duisburg's goalkeeper made an excellent fingertip save and turned Zidan's shot away for a corner.

A few minutes later, another long pass was played to Zidan, he controlled the ball well on his chest and crossed low to Auer who escaped his marker and tried to bury the ball home with his left but the goalkeeper parried his shot and prevented another real goal for Mainz.

Just a few minutes from the final whistle, Zidan got another chance to win the game for Mainz but the goalkeeper and the foot of the post denied him from scoring. The ball fell to the Egyptian just outside the box and he sent a low shot at goal, the goalkeeper got a hand it it and then the post denied the goal.
