Mohamed Zidan was once again an important factor for Mainz' success in avoiding relegation this season.

Zizou played the game from the start alongside Benjamin Auer and Michael Thurk in attack. Soon after the kick off, Mainz got their first chance when Thurk laid the ball from the left wing to Milorad Pekovic who fired a low shot with his left at goal, but the shot went narrowly wide.

A few minutes latter, the ball reached Mohamed Zidan in the right wing, Zidan crossed it low in front of goal to Auer but the latter couldn't take advantage of Zizou's accurate cross and the real chance went begging.

In the 10th minute, Zidan got the ball inside the area, he tried to chip his marker but the ball came off the shoulder of Schalke's defender and changed its direction, Zidan wanted the penalty kick but the match referee said play on!

In the 14th minute, Mainz managed to take the lead through the well positioned Auer and a clever move by Zidan. The goal came through a defensive error as the last man of Schalke gave the ball away to Zidan and the Egyptian used his skills to evade him and laid the ball to Auer who chipped the ball home with one touch to give Mainz the lead.

After the goal, Schalke had a chance to level the score from a powerful shot but it missed the target by inches.

Minutes later, Schalke's striker Asamoah scored a goal through a powerful header but the referee disallowed it as the striker was in offside position.

Near the end of the first half, Zidan had a chance to double Mainz' lead when the ball was passed to him in the area, he spotted the goalkeeper coming out of his net and so, he tried to chip him, Zidan's chip shot was going in but a defender saved it off the line and prevented the real goal.

Soon after the kick off of the 2nd half, Zidan sent a clever pass to Thurk just outside the box and the latter tried a shot with his left but the goalkeeper had no problems saving it.

Schalke replied with a powerful shot at goal but Mainz goalkeeper Wache saved it afar a 2nd attempt.

In the 78th minute, Mainz coach Jurgen Klopp decided to rest Zidan and replaced him with the forward Casey.

After Zidan's exit, Mainz managed to maintain their lead till the final whistle.

With the referee's whistle,t the whole team celebrated their success in the last games as they managed to remain in the Bundesliga for another year.

It should be noted that this win put Mainz in the 11th spot in the table with 37 points which means that their coming game will not make a difference.
