Zidan and Mainz were unlucky in their home Bundesliga clash with the 6th team in the table Hertha BSC. Mainz proved to be the better side throughout the game and created more chances, but their opponents converted the chances in a better way and the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

Zizou played the game from the start but had to come off in the 57th minute of the game after he fell onto the ground injured. The Egyptian was suffering from slight injury that he picked up in training but he managed to carry on and play the game. However, it seemed that the injury renewed itself in the 2nd half and Klopp preferred to rest Zizou and replaced him with Casey.

Highlights:

Early pressure from Hertha side and Mainz goalkeeper made a fine save after a shot from the edge of the box.

Mainz replied with a header from inside the box but Hertha's goalkeeper had no problems saving it.

A few minutes later, Marcelinho played a fine one-two and sent a powerful low shot at goal but it went just wide.

Minutes later, Zidan got a golden chance to score but he squandered it. The chance came when Hertha's last man passed the ball by mistake to Zizou and the Egyptian received the ball well, evaded Hertha's defender and shot the ball at goal but it went over the bar. Zizou should have done better from that chance or he should have passed the ball to Thurk who was in a better position in front of goal.

Near the end of the first half, Mainz won a freekick outside the box, Da Silva struck it well over the defensive wall but his shot was denied by the crossbar.

Hertha replied with a powerful low shot by Basturk but Mainz goalkeeper made a great fingertip save and sent the ball behind for a corner.

In the 41st minute, Pantellic managed to score for the guests from a freekick. The ball was crossed into the far post to find Pantellic who headed the ball home from close range to give Hertha the lead.

In the 2nd half, particularly in the 52nd minute the referee awarded Main a penalty kick after a foul on Thurk inside the box, the same player took the penalty kick and hit the ball low at goal, the ball hit the inside of the post and went into the back of the net to make the score 1-1.

Five minute later, Zidan fell onto the ground unchallenged and couldn't resume the game. As a result, Klopp decided to replace the injured Egyptian with Casey.

Luckily for Casey and Mainz, the substitute managed to score Mainz' 2nd goal when he headed the ball at goal from close range where it was parried by the goalkeeper and fell back to him, this time, he hit the ball into the roof of the net to make the score 2-1 for Mainz.

The same player created a real chance when he outpaced his marker from the right wing and crossed it low to the oncoming Thurk but the latter missed the target.

In the 89th minute and with only one minute left, Pantellic scored his 2nd goal in the game and his 9th Bundesliga goal to level the score once again for Hertha BSC. The goal came through a cross from the right wing and Pantellic met the cross with a great header into the top corner to end the game in a 2-2 draw that kept Hertha 6th and Mainz 14th in the Bundesliga table.
