The guests had one real chance in this half when Mainz defender
Manuel Friedrich failed to clear the ball before the experienced
striker Oliver Neuville who sent the ball at goal but the
bar denied his well placed shot.
Zidan and his new hair style
In the 2nd half, the referee awarded Mainz
a freekick which was taken by Da Silva who sent the ball
into the far corner but Kasey Keller made a great save and
stopped the ball in style.
In the 62nd min. Mainz scored their first
goal through Michael Thurk. The goal came through a corner
kick which was taken by Zidan who crossed it into the near
post to find Auer who headed it behind to Thurk at the far
post and the latter had no problems putting it home to give
Mainz the deserved lead.
Seven minutes later, Zizou scored his goal
to double Mainz' lead. The game came through a fast counter
attack from Mainz as the ball reached Auer in the left and
the latter passed it on the floor to Zidan who buried the
ball past Keller to make the score 2-0 for Mainz.
The third goal came in the last minute through
Thurk who controlled the ball well inside the box and powered
a great volley into the top corner to make the score 3-0.
With this victory, Mainz moved up to the 14th
spot in the table while Monchengladbach remained 7th.
