Zidan's Mainz Lose to HSV

Mohamed Zidan's Mainz failed to return home from their trip to Hamburg with any points as they lost to HSV Hamburger by a single goal. Zidan played from the start but he had very little impact as HSV forced Mainz to defend most of the time.

While Zidan was in the score sheet of Mainz in all their latest games in the Bundesliga, the Egyptian couldn't shine against Hamburg who put Mainz under constant pressure and won the game by a single goal.

The goal came in the 10th minute through the Iranian international Mehdi Mahdavikia who made a great run with the ball into the penalty area and buried the ball with his right into the far corner to give HSV in the lead.

Minutes after the early goal, Mainz,s forward Thurk sent a shot from close range at goal but the goalkeeper of HSV had no problems saving it.

Later, Mainz got a real chance to score through a powerful shot that bounced off a defender and the ball fell to Petkovic who had the chance to bury it home but he blazed it over the bar and squandered the chance.

In the 2nd half, HSV had the chance to extend their lead early on when Mahdavikia laid the ball superbly to Barbarez but the latter shot came off a defender and went wide.


Minutes later, Trochowski fell inside the box but the referee didn't count the penalty kick for the homeside.

In the 64th minute, Mohamed Zidan came off and was replaced by Weisland.

The pressure continued from the homeside and Jarolim received a through pass and advanced on the keeper. However, a great saving tackle from Mainz's defense prevented the 2nd goal.

In the 84th minute, the referee disallowed a goal for HSV when Takahara beat the goalkeeper of Mainz in the air and buried the ball home. However, the referee whistled for a foul on Takahara on the goalkeeper as he made contact with him in the air.

Just a few minutes before the end of the game, Mainz won a freekick and Da Silva was about to score from it but his shot went centimeters over the bar and the game ended in a 1-0 defeat for Mohamed Zidan's side.
