Zidan scored his 2nd for Mainz

For the second week in a row, Egyptian star striker Mohamed Zidan played a full game for Mainz. The Egyptian showed a very good performance in the away game against the Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich last week and so, it was expected that he will be a starter in this weekend's home clash with Wolfsburg.

Zidan's side managed to take the lead very early on as they were awarded a penalty kick in the 2nd minute. A long ball was played to Benjamin Auer who fell theatrically just inside the box and oddly the referee and his assistant didn't see the blatant play acting and the penalty kick was counted for Mainz. Zidan's teammate forward Michael Thurk struck the penalty kick and made no mistake to give Mainz the lead.

The guests replied to Mainz' goal instantly as they scored a goal in the 3rd minute of the game after making good use of the confused Mainz defenders who couldn't clear the ball and instead Klimowicz reacted quickly and buried the ball into the bottom corner with his left to level the score once again.

In the 35th minute of the game, Mainz reclaimed the lead through Auer who got the ball in the clear in the right side of the area and fired the ball home with his right into the far corner to make the score 2-1 for Mainz.

In the last minute of the first half, Petr Ruman added the 3rd for Mainz. The goal came through a freekick for Mainz. Instead of shooting, the ball was passed on the floor to Ruman in the left side of the area and he met it with a direct low shot with his right to give Mainz a 3-1 lead.

The second half promised more for Mainz as Mohamed Zidan added the 4th for in the 50th minute. Zizou got the ball outside the area and he managed to dribble past his marker brilliantly and then he decided to shoot with his left from the edge of the box, Zidan's powerful shot beat the keeper and went into the back of the net to make the score 4-1.

Things got even worse for Wolfsburg in the 62nd minute as Tskitshvili received a second yellow card and the guests had to resume the game with one man down.

In the 77th minute, Thurk added the 5th goal for Mainz. A through pass was played to him and he managed to evade the goalkeeper and buried the ball home from a narrow angle into the empty net.

A few minute later, Zidan got a golden chance to score when the ball was played to him and he had only the goalkeeper to beat, the Egyptian tried to chip the ball over the keeper but it went just over the bar and the chance went begging.

The score remained unchanged in the final minutes till the referee blew the final whistle.

With this victory, Mainz moved into the 13th spot in the table and their recent performances indicate that their form is on the rise.
